400ex comparison
#1
I have been looking into buying a new quad and i am leaning torward's a honda 400ex..I was just wanting to get a little info about it compared to a raptor..I have been told that the 400ex's can run with raptor's but are much more rider friendly..So i guess i just wanted to see if anybody has any opinion's to the pro/con's to these 2 bikes..Also is it true that the 400ex is a 5speed instead of 6 and if so how does it affect the bike when running against some of the 6speed 400's..If anyone else is had to make the same decision between the 2 do u regret or stand by your decison's of going with the ex.. your reply's are greatly appreciated.

I have the 400ex and my best friend just bought a 04 Rappy. It is a nice quad. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice of a quad it is, cause you here so much bad about it. It has oodles of torque and is a little tough to keep the front end down. Great for hill climbing duning etc. But for trails and mx tracks it is a little too much. The 400ex is a good all around quad and it will never embarrass you. They are good to ride wheelies with, jump, trail ride. etc. But the Rappy is nice too. I guess whatever you feel the most comfortable on is what you should get. Try riding both and see what feels more comfortable.

400ex's are great quads! Raptors are also very nice though. Either one would not upset you, but to be completely honest, I like riding my 400 more then my buddies raptor. Raptors are awesome, don't get me wrong, but I prefer my EX more. Just my perference.
BTW, Banshees and Raptor 350s are the only quads still made today with 6speed trannys.

Thank's alot for your replys fella's..I think the 400ex will be the best choice for the type of riding i am into..I love riding wheelies and trail riding. I have been looking at some 416ex's and some 440ex's on ebay and i really like the look of them.. The guy selling the 440ex say's it will beat raptor's but he is probably just saying that to get more bids. I have heard that the suspension on the 400ex is the best from the factory. I guess now i just got to decide red or yellow..
Btw K fulk there is quite a few more 6speeds than just those 2 bikes.. both the 350 and 660 raptor, banshee, warrior, even my little blaster is a 6speed. I am not sure about the yfz's but i think all yamaha sport quads are 6speed

No dude the only 6 speeds left are the yamahas, (ie 350 raptor, banshee and blaster). Unless you get into the older stuff you will find more 6 speeds like 250r's and 350x's etc. The extra gears arent really needed on 4 strokes like they were 2 strokes.
I know the raptor, yfz, z400, 450r, and cannondale are all 5spds.

400EX has the best factory suspension?
I ride one and I think the suspension blows.
Sounds like you are set on the 400EX.
But with all the new modern liquid cooled motors and upgraded factory suspensions (shocks with reserviors, wider a-arms ) larger fuel capacity why anyone would by a 400EX is beyond me.
