I am confused about what you said in your comment about not powdercoating your aluminum swing arm.
Could you take a stock 400EX swing arm, polish the aluminum to a beautiful mirror-like finish, and powdercoat it clear (to protect your many countless hours put into shinning the alum up). Would that be something you could do, or is it bad to powder coat aluminum. Your time is greatly apprecitated.

I am a powdercoater, and I would suggest black wrinkle, because it is really strong, I have a lot of parts powercoated on my bike, such as the swingarm, foot pegs, battery holder, ETC. I will powdercoat anybodys frame real cheap, or any parts, just e-mail me.

VilentJ,
What I meant was why powdercoat it if you can polish it. I don’t have my EX handy but I don’t think the swing arm is factory coated but either way you would have to remove it. And yes putting a clear coat on would be a good idea so you don’t have to keep touching up and it also adds a good scratch guard. To do the polishing I would use a high powered grinder but a 1/2” drill might work good also. You can do a search on polishing in the forum to learn how. If you use a home powdercoating kit like the one from Eastwood the material to be coated has to be able to withstand 400 degrees for about 10-15 minutes. If it can take the heat it can be coated.
