Default Please help with my 250x

Whats up everyone. I just bought a 1987 250x. I am new to the ATV world and need a little help well here we go. The ignition switch will not turn so I can't get it started. If you wiggle the switch and hold it as far as you can to the on position you can get it started but as soon as you let go of the switch it cuts off. I have tried hooking up a toggle switch and that isn't working. I need to try and get it running so I can see what I need for it. Does anyone have any advise that might help?

If the problem is the key, you can by-pass it. Unplug the 2 wires of the key. Plug the 2 wires that are on the quad together, hot wired no key needed.

I tried that and it still will not start. Do you think it could also be something else if so do you have any sugestions? Like I said I have had it running with messing with the ignition switch. I should be trying to start it with the choke open right?

Pull out the spark plug, plug it into the wire, then ground the plug. Kick it over and seeif it sparks. Mess with the wires and see if it quits sparking during this. If you kick it and doesn't spark moves wires till you find the bad spot.

It could also be in the kill switch, but that will be hard to test.

Perhaps you have a wire that is grounding out on the frame/handlebars somewhere?

Try kicking it over/starting it in a dark environment. Sometimes you can see a spark and can tell where it is grounding out using this method.
