If u wanted honda to come out with a new 250r just like it was in 89 could u just build one.

What i am saying is..... Does honda sell everypart for the old 250r now or are most discontinued? i know this would be TONS and tons of money but if they sold all the parts still u could make a brand new 250r right...

I would say YES, because even if Honda has discontinued some of the parts, you can get them aftermarket. I know you can still buy a complete, new engine & virtually every other part should be available aftermarket, but it would cost big $$.

Seriously big money!! Try buying a new thumb-throttle. You can't buy the "unit" anymore, just replacement parts. To buy all the parts is almost $200! I had to drive over 50 miles to a salvage yard to get one for $50! My local Honda dealer sells main jets for the stock carb for $8.50! Lug nuts are $3.50 each! This is the little stuff.

If your local honda guy was cool you could get a pretty deep discount if he knew you where serious about building from scratch. Because you would be spending alot of time at the parts counter. One of my buddies replaced almost everything but the frame, swingarm and wiring harness.

Hey,if anyone is needing to buy lots of Honda parts, and they are not available aftermarket(for example the main jets referred to earlier at the Honda dealer for $8+, are available from several DW advertisers for about $2 and they are the same jet - Keihn), then shop dealers, some offer decent discounts. I get on the average 20% from my dealer(not local). A couple of Honda dealers advertise some good prices in DirtWheels. Of course, if I was going to build one from scratch, I'd start with an aftermarket chasis(Laeger, Roll, LoneStar, etc). Would still be big $$.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to tell you something that you already knew. It's just that I've thought about the same thing many times before and the dollar signs just go right along with that train of thought. In fact, anytime I hear the words "Honda Dealer" or "Honda Parts", I automatically think of money!!

I read what you said pretty well, Amigo. I was just commenting that if you bought EVERYTHING at Honda how expensive it would be. I asked my local Honda dealer if it could be done and how much. He said you can get most of it but it would be cheaper to go buy Gary Denton's racing quad for the $10,000 he's asking for it! Yikes!
