I have owned both these bikes. Both have good trail handling, mostly because they are medium size machines and therefore very agile. The Blaster has the advantage of being slightly lighter, and the EX has shaft drive which is heavier but nicer in the mud and water. The biggest problem with the Blaster is that it is a 2-stroke, so you have to keep it on the powerband, which isn't always easy to do when things get technical (it does its best work in 3rd gear pinned!). Lots of clutch slipping and such. The Blaster will need a lot more rebuilds than the EX! Blaster has slightly better suspension.

Both are very good quads, parts are cheap for both. I would buy either one. As for no bottom end on the blaster I do not have that problem with my 2000. I’m building a 2003 Blaster right now to race cross-country some this summer. The reason I'm building it over the 250ex is I found it first. I have had my hand in building some 250ex and you can make them run very strong too. For the trails I found the DG exhaust work very well at giving a over rev and still keeping the low end for both quads. On the blaster if you use a forged piston, keep the oil injection on and run Amsoil after brake in you can go two to three years before rebuilding it again. Rebuild on a blaster takes about three hours and is easy to do. If you get a blaster get the get a 2003 or newer. A 250EX any year will do.

2003 Blaster cons,
Stiff suspension
Has a chain

250EX cons
Soft suspension

You can buy a Vitos forged kit for $120.00. That is every thing for the top. Around here boring is $25.00 to $30.00.
