And i love it. Also i drag raced a 2005 400ex (have new gearing for 05) and the new bike has even more down bottom then i do with the 14 tooth sproket. I could not believe how quick it was but even with the 14t i still had more on top. But thanks again. I will order the stage one cam today. Also do i need a new head gasket?

you won't need the gasket on top of the head. it is metal and you can reuse it. you still beat the 05 top end?? tell him to adjust his throttle cable and race him again. there only need to be 1/8-1/4 inch of slack in the throttle cable. if there is more, your carb isn't opening up all the way. you should loose a lot of top speed with the 14 front.

Thanks for the heads up about the throttle cable, but it dosent seem like i lost that much topend. I was told that i would lose alot, but it dosent really seem like i did. Also thanks for answering my question about the gasket.

I was just wandering about the 14T sprockett cause I thought it would kill your low end (yeah, more power at the very start but fade quickly) beings that these quads are better known for their off the line torq rather than turning high RPMs...............But if you say it works for you thats cool too........

I have a timing advance and I guess it works better, seems to rev a lil quicker. I also changed my sprocket to a 14t and lost a lil bottom end, But I clocked it at 63 with a GPS, but it was about to bust!!

Thanks for the info. Also i is it hard to install a cam on a 400ex. I dont have much experence with 4 strokes, but i have experence with 2 strokes, have a cr80 dirtbike. Is there anything i should be on the look out for, and special tools needed to do the job? I have a clymer manual so hopefully this will help me if i need it.

I read in the manual, says you need to put some lock tight on the cam bolts. Do i really need to do this, and what strength of lock tight do i need to use? Also is it okay to tighten everything without using a torque wrench? Thanks.

Check out www.hotcamsinc.com They have installation instructions for the 400EX on there website.

Oh, and be sure not to over tighten the head cover bolts................
And mark each hole for each bolt cause theres like 4 different sizes (head cover)............

Thanks for the info again. It dosent really sound all that hard to do. Just time consuming if you want to do it right. I will see if i can get my buddy who builds his own race motors to help me out. Thanks again.

Been there, done that. Did a lot cussing when it broke off.

Also, I'm a lot more leary about installing the piston then the cam. At least after reading horror stories about not installing the rings properly. I may have to hire that one out. I think the cam is harder to screw up.
