could use some insight for race bike

i was wondering what were the most valuable upgrades that will make me quicker on the track. i know i will be putting in the 440 kit and +2 arms, +4 axel and elkas, but besides that what can be done in order to make the 400ex a better race bike, for a novice racer looking to get into the sport next spring. in other words what are the absolute things that i must get to be competitive, and fast.

well your not the first so dont feel bad.
i got a brand new 400ex that a guy bought and never drove it was 2900$ with title, regi, manual, 2 keys, ect, and skid, + dg bumper. if i were to go to the dealer it would be about 5400$, so i figured i could save all that money and put it into race parts, and surely it wont total a yfz, or 450r equipped the same. i have seen 400s go against the 450s, and they can beat them with the right mods. 9/10 times it is the rider and not the bike.

To add to your list i would also include some beadlocks for the rear and mx tires all around. If you get used shocks get the mrevalved for you. I would also suggest some cr hi bend bars they give you quite a bit more control and nerfs. Extended swingarms are nice but not necessary. Other than that just keep fixing any problems that may arise on it. Keep an eye on you balljoints, bearings, oil, etc.

well the bike is new so no problems, i know i need the little things, my main question is should i get the 440 kit first, or
axel , a-arms and shocks, i can save tons by going the ebay route. will works shock cut it, or no? i am not going to be doing hardcore mx just local racing on the weekends.

could i get away with a-arms like these or do i need lsr, or some other high end a-arm. i am going to prolly get axis, pep, or elkas on ebay due to the unbeliveable deals, and get them revalved/resprung for my weight.

There not fancy but they will work just fine. Havent heard any complaints about burgards. The works are ok but if you had baldwin, tcs , or deirisi revalve them they will be better. When works are valved there valved for a wider range of riders.
Get the suspension first. As for the motor it just depends how much you want to spend on it. It needs more than just a 440 kit to be fast.

i would say go with the suspension, axel, swingarm a-arm ext.... and i read one of you other posts, i think you should just go fot the elkas,
i would put in the 440 kit as a winter project maybe next fall, ejoy racing it this summer and really get a feel for it, i think a 440 kit might be a waste with out all the goodies to make it hadle.
