Default 2000 Rancher shifting troubles

I have a 2000 Rancher 350 ESP. The machine is doing the oddest thing. It starts up fine, warm it up a little and go. (easy, don't bash it 2 much). After about ten minutes ridin', it refuses to shift. All service complete and on time, OEM Honda stuff. Just so odd that shifting problem starts after it is warmed up to op. temp? I have read could be batt. problem, shift solenoid, or speed sensor. When it acts up the display changes into a bunch of dashed lines. If any one could help it sure would be great. I see that there was a recall on the "shift plate" in the case of many of these wheelers. Any thoughts would be great!

Default 2000 Rancher shifting troubles

Seems to me, there was a thread not too long ago, about this. go to search, and type in rancher and then shift. theres about 2 pages of threads. Im not trying to shutdown this thread...just giving you an idea what others have done.
Another thing to try, is adjust the clutch...this can cause hangups, if its not adjusted in specs. I believe on the rancher, you loosen the nut, turn the screw ccw, til it meets some resistance, go back 1/4 turn cw, and snug the nut.
make sure the oil is the proper type, and the proper level, and the battery holds a good charge.

welcome to the forums. I like that nicname....beerburner
