You cant compare 2 stroke to 4 stroke on direct displacement. A 2 stroke engine typically has the output of a 4 stroke engine 1.75 times its size. Using this a blaster should be equal in power to a 350cc engine. This can be seen in a race against a warrior, in which the blaster comes very close even when both are in stock trim.

The blaster is faster than a stock 300ex IME, and when piped CAN beat a stock warrior. But you need to do some serious work to a blaster to beat a 400ex.

 

True a smaller bore two stroke engine will have pep, but to say stock the blaster can race down a strip at speeds of 60+ is outrageous. Than to claim a 198cc two stroke motor can produce close to the same speeds as the 350cc four stroke warrior is no where true. This isn't just an opinion this is a fact. The warrior has close to a 62-63 mph range. On the 300ex's rebutal the blaster may be able to keep speed but stock for stock the ending descision will come down to riding ability.

 

also when you say faster do you mean bottom end mid range or top end.

 

I didnt say faster, I said engine output. The lighter weight of the blaster also helps.

If you feel that my statement is incorrect, thats your opinon and thats fine. But the 1.75 rule is just that, a rule. Its widely held as common knowledge and is often upheld in practice. For instance again the lt/trx/tecate 250's vs a 440cc 4 stroke. Why do you think the AMA decided to initially make that the displacement limit for racing?

 

If your 400ex is stock, and his blaster has a TON OF MODS id say the blaster..

There are many different dimensions on an atv that come into play when we talk about which bike is faster then which. I apologize because i didn't see that you were talking about engine output. If your correct than a Blaster should have close to the same out put as a warrior coming in at 341.25cc's. Giving the 400ex a 55.75cc advantage. Although two stokes are known for their pep. As the rule stands a 400ex will get approximatly 1.06cc's per pound as the Blaster gets 1.05. So even with its low weight and two stroke engine the 400 will not only get the Blaster in acceleration, but also top end speed. Again my apologies another lesson that were never done learning.

My stock '05 400EX topped out at 69.3 MPH, and I weigh 200lbs.

 

i got a blaster and i ripe 250 and 300exs but i cant take a yet. i havent had the chance to race one since i jetted it but its probly really close. stock for stock 400ex wins
