I personally prefer the hot and cold method. Dont run at full throttle, but get the temp up in the motor by riding it around. Then let her cool down. You'll want to repeat this process 20 or 30 times. By doing so, the piston rings will get tempered, and become springy, and seal better which leads to better performance.

When I did mine I started it up for like 5-10 min.s then rode it around not lugging or reving. You should notice a big difference and for a while it will just keep getting faster untill it is finally broke in.

what elevation you at, what temp is it outside, and do you run your air box lid on or off????

to break it in, i have always ran it pretty good. the key is to get the rings to seat properly. however, do NOT run synthetic on break-in and don't let it sit and idle. also, before going and letting her eat make sure the bike is warm by driving it around varying the rpms. then let it go so the rings will be broke in. when slowing down, let the compression slow you down, do not pull in the clutch and use the brakes as much on break in.

im not sure of my elevation but its around 40 degrees i have my air box lid on. So i shouldnt let it warm up just by letting it sit there rev it for awhile then get on and ride around pretty hard but not full throttle then just let it sit for awhile and do the same thing. Thanks everyone

i don't think you need to do the heat cycles still. in the old days the metal was a bit different. i would actually start it up and take off and ride it. just be easy until it is fully warm. then i would take it out and let'er eat. a 155 or 188 should be close. i would move the needle clip to the 4th position and run a 42 or 45 pilot jet.

You will want to tinker with jetting for awhile after break in to get your plug reading chocolate, and to get best performance.
