Hi everyone. I need help to get the rear axle assembly off the frame of my TRX450. The whole assembly is moving side to side. Where the assembly swings from the frame is where all the trouble is, it looks like either a bush/bearing has let go there. I have gotten as far as taking the guard off to allow access things. Under the plastic cap there is a 17mm hex and another peice around the outside with 4 prongs. Thats as far as I have got is there a special tool to turn the 4 prong peice ? Or am i going completely wrong? I basically need to get the whole rear end assembly off to replace whatever has bust in there

I think the pronged piece you have is a locking device for the nut so it can't come off. You need to bend the tabs back away from the nut to remove it.....

 

Thanks for your reply, It's not a locking tab as you describe, more like a sleeve witha thread and the 4 prongs face you as you look into it. I will give the homda dealer a call tommorrow and ask, they seem to be reluctant to help when they could be doing it themselves making money from it.

 

OK it's sounds like a spanner nut, you do need a special socket unless you try to fabricate a piece of pipe to fit it.
