ATV Insurance...again
#1
On the last thread about this I stated that I checked with my insurance company and was told that they were covered under my homeowners. Many of yall posted that this was not the case so I did some more checking. Seems my agent had quoted me some misinformation. In my emails I had specifically asked about my ATVs, boat and trailer at the weekend place.
Well as yall know they are NOT covered under a homeowners policy. So I added them to my auto insurance (think it was auto, don't recall). I got a quote online from Progressive for about $200 for both atvs. I called my insurer, Nationwide, and they worked the quote down to $89 for the King Quad and $94 for the Rancher (ATV info below). I waved the collision part of the insurance to reduce the costs. Inother words my ATV's are only protected if they are stolen. If they fall off the trailer then that's my problem. Run into a tree...my problem. I placed a value on them of about $5500. Close to replacement. I could have put on a lesser value. Deductable is $100 on each. Also they were placed in the zip code where our weekend house is (where they stay). A lesser rate than a Houston zip code.
The nice thing is they are covered from theft ANYWHERE. My understanding before is they were only covered when on the property.
So thanks for the heads up guys. You cost me some money but also might just have saved me some.

"Other Than Collison" coverage, also called "Comprehensive" coverage not only covers theft but also covers fire, wind, hail, and vandalism, so you should be covered for just about everthing except wrecking it. Good luck, I hope you never have to use it.

okay, one more lesson then...
Check with them to see how much if you insured 2 mopeds along with your 2 quads. For me when I only had two quads insured with Progressive, it was cheaper to insure 2 mopeds too. You get a discount for having more vehicles covered. Basically, my full coverage of $200 per quad dropped to $100 per quad and the mopeds are only about $33 each so instead of paying $400 for full coverage, I was paying $266.
I found two junk mopeds to insure. In fact, one is only a frame. I still have it insured now since I have 3 400exs now.
