the 250x and the 250ex are totally different.....it won't be near as fast. But umm its wasn't a bad move at all by honda....How many little kids are gonna have it to have one of these? alot..... but umm still if you put the money you would save by buyin a 400ex,other than the raptor, into the the motor a raptor couldn't touch you.....Trick250rx's 250rx beat lonestarbanshee's banshee in a drag race yesterday... thats sayin alot for a 250x engine.....the banshee will take him in top speed though......but anyways honda doesn't have to prove anything.....they already have one of(if not the) best high performance quad out there.so ya'll just get off em ok? ok later

I would just like to say that Honda has come out with a real dinger! I LIKE IT! It's unique, its something someone is going to buy. If you look on the 2001 model annoucment and click on the sportrax 250EX, under the pictures you will see a paragraph about it. Its states, and i quote, "features a HIGH PERFORMANCE OHV, four stroke engine, AMAZING HANDLING, and honda's LEGENDARY reliability" I think this says something about the newly designed 250EX. It's not just the Recon motor, its been tweaked, you can bet on that. This machine is going to sell!!

For the last two days, I have read all the post about Honda's new 250ex. I admit that I hoped to see a new sport offering, something along the lines of a 650ex but after I thought about the 250ex for awhile, I think it fills a void and Honda will sell quite a few. I will buy one when my kids outgrow their TRX90. My wife rides a Recon, and I have been very happy with it. It seems to me that the 250ex will be a dependable and fun "ENTRY" quad.

To all of you posting these childish bashings of Honda and their new offering, I say "Grow Up". Your disapointment sounds like a brat at Christmas that didn't get what he wanted.
You are certainly missing the big picture. Do you think for one minute that Honda would release this model without any feedback from riders or idea of what the demand would be?

I am a Honda fan, I own a 400ex and if I want to go faster, I'll work on my 400 or buy a Raptor. End of story.

I am willing to bet that the majority of you questioning Honda's wisdom have no idea how the business of selling a product really works.

Honda will in time release an answer to the Raptor. Until then, get on with life or go buy a Yamaha.

I'll make another bet....A large amount of you whining that you can't go down to the local Honda dealer and buy the newest fastest "ll00ex" couldn't handle it anyway. I have never met a great rider that claimed that displacement was everything.

This sport we love is about more than "GOING FAST!!! Those of you that think it is will be whining in a few years when the government steps in again and shuts the Sport market down. If you don't think it will ever happen, look around at everything else the government feels they need to do to protect us.

Please give some thought when posting responses here. My comments are not only for this thread but all the others as well. Yes, we can be disapointed, but if all you want to do is bitch, then go elsewhere because your adding no value here. Thanks for reading MY OPINION.

Although it would have been nice to see a big bore racer or a sport 4X4, I think the 250EX will be a big seller for Honda. When I bought my Recon I had a low budget that left me with the lowend models or a used machine. I looked hard at a blaster but couldn't go for a 2 stroke and no reverse. I would have bought a 250EX in a heartbeat. Now believe it or not the Recon was a blast! You don't need to go 60 to have fun. It ran 45, handled nice, even jumped. Now, shave off 50 pounds, improve the suspension, add manual shift, and improve the brakes. I think I could have fun on a machine like that. A lot more people have the money to get into a fun machine like this and when they are ready to move up they will probably look at a Honda first. Honda may be many things, but they are far from stupid. BK

true allot of people don't want to spend a fortune or might want to get 2 machines at once for there family. The shaft drive and front disc brakes are a great idea. The 250EX isd a winner if you ask me.

On the ATVsence.com page, they have a small review of the machine too come.
The engine has a high compression piston and a redesigned valvetrain. Also from the pics on the Honda site, you can see it has a 400EX type exhaust system.
This all translates into more power....

The only thing "Recon" about this machine is the engine and shaft drive.
New frame, disk brakes, better shocks, lighter weight, sportier look.....

I bet it will go 50 lighter than a Recon and they go 45 or so. And really what makes anyone actually get mad over Honda making this?? are your mommies making you get one?

So, if you're banshee is broken, what are you doing in a Honda forum bashing Hondas?
Rebuild a Honda four-stroke every week? BS!
I've had 4 Honda air-cooled four-strokes and never had to do anything but maintain them!
I have a liquid-cooled Honda two-stroke now. Funny, when it broke, it didn't cost nearly as much to fix as that yamahoppy two-cylinder will cost you, even if all you were doing was making it stock again.
I may be disappointed at what Honda did also, since I prefer high performance and still have many years left to ride (and I'm older than most of you by far), but I'm only disappointed they didn't build what I wanted. I'm sure they researched the market before they built the 250EX and knew they could sell a bunch of them.
When Dodge came out with a V-10 that had more power than Chevy, I was bummed. I waited patiently and guess what? The 2001 Chevy has a new V-8 with more ponies and torque than the Dodge. All things come to he that waits.
And if you can't get what you want from anybody, build one!
