hard to tell from such vague description, but check compression, double check timing, maybe you just need to re-gear, try a 14 tooth up front, it will defintiely help you out, good luck

I have a 14 tooth up front. I also checked the timing. The compression is the next thing I need to check. Could it have any thing to do with the porting?

Maybe too much ignition advance--why not go back to stock timing and see how it runs.

Speaking of timing, I assume your valve timing is dead on--cam indexed and crankshaft at TDC when cam installed.

The mid-range cam moves HP and torque up the RPM range just a bit (hence, low speed torque is lost). Is the ignition advance key in correctly? When porting takes place, material is usually removed creating additional area within the port. What does this mean? Less low speed torque.

The midrange cam is a fairly mild grind, essentially the same as the stock XR grind. Although I haven't performed the mods myself (yet, parts on the way), I studied the combo's some. The added compression should mostly compensate for the loss of low end. Porting, if not done correctly can kill the low end, but I suspect something a bit more sinister. Check the cam timing, if the engine is shy on power, this would be a good place to start, it's pretty easy to accidentally get a tooth off....

How about "starving for a carb" or jetting. Was this a "kit" from a shop or did you just throw a bunch of parts together and hoped its fast?

I am not sure where you went wrong, I just saw a guy up in my area that had a bike that sounds just like yours. He seemed to have no problem climbing the hills or rippin trought the river bed. He smoked a Banchie by several quad lengths. COuld it be that expectations where to high for the amount of performance that you expected to get out of these mods? Most people make those kind of expectaions and wonder whats wrong with their bike when it really is fine. The only thing that I suggest is to go ahead and step up to a bigger carb. Let me know what you think.
