trx450r feedback
I've had my '05 450R for about 6 months now and I'm just as happy with it now as I was when i bought it. It handles really well and has a very good stock suspension under it. As far as performance mods go...I bought a HMF Full-exhaust, Uni-filter, & 200MJ at the dealership when i bought the quad....Normally if you buy a bike from a dealership they generally cut you a pretty good deal on the parts too...for example I paid $6700 OTD for my 450R...now that included the HMF exhaust, Uni-filter, LSR extended axle, and Durablue wheel spacers. The bike itself was $5800 OTD. Hope this helped!

If you do a search, there are a hunderd posts on this topic!
It's a great bike for the open desert and fast trails. The motor likes to rev and the bike is geared tall, so it isn't great for slow trails. Technical trails should just be avoided altogether.
Starts first kick every time (unless I forget to turn the key on!) and I don't need reverse.

I have had my 450R for almost a year. I love it, but then I'm a Honda guy through and through. I'm sure you'll get responses favoring the Yamaha too.
The kick start is no problem as recon said. Just the other day at a staging area a guy said to me "How can you stand to have a kick start" I kicked it once and it was running. I looked at him and said "that's how"
The mods I have are. Modified end cap on stack muffler, 185 main jet, larger needle jet, dropped clip 4 notches, modified airbox lid and Hotcams Stage II coming soon.
It is an absolutly wonderful handling quad. Runs strong and flies great. Very comfortable ride too. Not a stiffly suspended as the Yamaha.
Yor son will love it.

I love my 450r. It is my sand dune quad. I just got plus 2 A-arms, and the stock shocks redone. I can't wait to ride it.
