can we wash the air filters and reoil them? what kind of oil would i use?

If you have a foam air filter it will wash up real good using kerosene. Let it dry real good, you can use a rag to soak up the kerosene just don't twist the filter. You can then buy filter oil at your local dealer. I use the spray on filter oil because it is easy to use and isn't as messy.

 

if you put on too much oil you will starve the engine of air....

Make sure you use ONLY hot soapy water, NO GAS OR KEROSENE! Gas will eat away the foam over time and it will evwntually end up in your carb and engine, which you don't want. Also, as stated before, don't overoil the filter. A buddy of mine put in a new filter on his KX250 and overoiled it and his bike would not start until I cleaned and lightly reoiled it!

You risk sucking fine dirt particles into the carb and engine. The actual filter was designed to keep large particles of dirt out, while the oil traps the smaller particles.

 

can u use mototr oil?

 

DO NOT use motor oil. Use only filter oil, it's sticky.
Kerosene will not eat away the foam filter. It happens to be the cleaner recommended for OEM filters.

 

Really? Was unaware of this. Guess I shouldn't have assumed that kerosene would eat the foam like gas would.
