400ex thumb throttle screw problem
#1
I flipped my 400ex over and bent my handlebars. I am trying to replace my handlebars and I can't get the throttle off the old handlebars. There is a small bracket with 2 small phillips screws that hold the throttle to the handlebars and I can't get these screws off. Anybody else have this problem? What was honda thinking putting screws on there, they need bolts. I think locetite was used on these screws during assembly. I sure hate to have to drill those screws out and rethread the holes. When I do get it fixed i'm putting bolts on there. I'm can't get a good grip on the screws with a vise grip. I think i'm gonna try to dremel the head of the screw into a square so I can get a better grip but I have my doubts. Any suggestion are appreciated.

If you get stuck, dremel the heads of the screws completely off. Once the part is off you can use visegrips on the screw stump. It will no longer have any pressure on it and it will likely come out easier.

If they are not two bad Craftsman makes some stuff you put on the end of a phillips swrew driver that helps it grab ahold. This only will work 1/2 the time but it will save you a lot of time and agrivation if it does. If not try screw extractors.
