New 2001 400ex and the stock bars suck. I am looking at Renthals and tags and pro tappers. Money is an issue. Let me know what you think.

If money is an issue, make sure to stick with aluminum, but look into some of the "budget" brands.

Factory Racing - sold by: Rock Mountain ATV - Chaparral
Rad Racing - sold by: Rad Racing

are a couple. About $35 - I have been running a set of Factory Racing bars for a while now, they work fine.... I am personally thinking about trying a set of Demarini's

There is no "best bar manufacturer" with many of the top brand names, you get a good quality bar, but you are also paying a good premium for their advertising budget. The material and bend is what you need to be concerned about. Aluminum is the only material to consider. The bend is personal preference.

Much appriciated. Those are the kind of figures that I am lookin for. I just recently was down at Chapparral so I have their catalog. I will look into those bars. I will let you know what I end up with. I have a B-day comin up in OCt so maybe I can get lucky and score some.

If you can make it back down to Chapparral on Saturday, October 7, they are having a major parking lot sale! If you need anything, try to get there for it!

Thanks for the info, only one prob. I live in Auburn which is about 3-400 miles away from it. Maybe I can get some of my friends down there to score a pair for me.

i would go for regular diameter bars, the pro taper style bars are good but in a roll over the stem will give before the bars will. it easier to replace a 50 dollar pair of bars than a 250 to 400 dollar stem

renthals are good bars but a little pricey unless on sale. tags are the same way. fmf makes a 909 bar. all the bars are pretty much the same price about 50 - 70, only cool thing about rethals are the color options. steel is cheaper but also bends easier

Renthals are the original alloy bars. I ran them on trials bikes in the 70's. If I were you, I'd contact a tech at Renthal USA or Renthal America, I forget which is correct, and tell him of your riding style and let him suggest the right model bar for you. For example, if you tend to stand on the pegs a lot, he might suggest the CR bend, which is what I use. They have a shorter rise than my stock Warriors & with less pull back, which are great for tight woods or full lock slides.A lot of manufactures make bars with the same designation but they seem to vary in the specs.
A word of caution regarding torqueing alloy bars, at least Renthals: the recommended torque is just 17 ft lbs to avoid crushing at the clamps. Mine are rock solid at 17 lbs.
