stiff throttle 250r?
#1
I was just wondering, I have an 86 250r and the throttle seems to be pretty hard to push. At first when i got the bike (about 2 weeks ago) it seemed fine but then went for a snow trail ride and I guess with the cold it felt that it was really stiff especially over about 2 hours in the freezing cold. I really cant compare it to how it was before, but i know that my friends new z400 throttle is very light on the thumb compared. Is this normal? thanks

Hey Razer,
Is your throttle sticking open or just hard to push? Prolly icing up inside the cable. Take the cable off and spray it out with brake clean, let it dry out then lube it. Should be good to go.
If ya dont want to bother cleaning it get a new cable, lube it up and go. not a big deal. just make sure it dont stick open B-4 you ride.

Thanks 2Fun,
I couldnt pass it up when I found it. I told myself if I ever found an 88 like this it would be mine. I really need to update my pics too. Since I bought the quad I've gone to extremes to remove and store the almost new discontinued items and replace them with aftermarket stuff.
for what I got into it now I could have a new 450R, but I know a thumper just wouldnt cut it for me.

Oh...well I don't know why it got hard, probably the icing in the cable. But I converted mine to a 250x thumb throttle from a twist throttle and it was really stiff. So, what I did was remove the spring inside the thumb thorttle body on the handlerbars. There is a little small spring inside there, I took mine out and it helped a ton. After doing that, I could ride for a long time without having to stop and give my thumb a rest like I do with my 400ex now.
