OutRacing is exactly correct. The only way to increase top speed is either a rev limiter or by changing sprockets.

Remember that the 250 EX and Recon have shaft drive. Sprocket change it out of the question. Re-gearing is probably out of the question for most...

One easy thing that you can do for a test speed run on hard pack or grass is to pump up the tires until they are about to pop. You can squeeze a bit more out of the top end that way, but you can't run it on any bumps or mixed terrain.

Fastblasterboy, Yes, I have had lots of pictures of me and my machine in Dirt Wheels. Mostly the letters section. I am glad that you saw it. (I feel like a celeberty lol )

My '05 250EX goes maybe 50. I had my brother-in-law next to me tapped out he said I was just under 50. The 250EX isn't made for racing. It's more of an entry level trail quad. I bought mine because I changed over from 2 wheel mx and didn't want a racing style quad and the 250EX is a quad that runs forever. Also, my girlfriend is learning to ride and this is almost the perfect quad to learn on. If you go with smaller rear tires, you actually loose top end so be careful about your tires. For more HP go with K & N filter and jet kit, that's what I've heard at least, mine is stock.

A jet kit will not get you up to 60 on a 250ex.

You guys say it wont get up to 55. Well thats Crap!
THis winter my friend clocked me with his snowmobile, i was doing 54 in the flat field and his speedometer aint broke, its a brand new sled.
So when i got my trail tech computer, i hooked it up, and we treied it again. Darn near dead on, he clocked me again at 54, and my trail tech was reading 52-53.
Now thats with my spark arrester in. Now its fall and i took that out and going down the road, with throttle opened widem my trail tech was reading 59.. So unless something got goofy, i am pretty sure that a 250ex can do at least 56 given a leeway. and take in mind.. thats all stock, just removing the spark arrester.

Now i know the trail tech computer prob isnt 100% accurrate, but its darn close when riding side by side to a sled and he tells me we are going 54mph.

You can argue all u want.. but thats just my story. god honest

My same bud has a Kawasaki 300.. and when we ride side by side, my trail tech reads about 53 then he my bud stats to pull away.. lingering ahead of me only a few feet, maybe 12 or so before he tops out. So we figure his 300 prob does about 62-65. Just a guess tho, but hes gonna get a trail tech soon.

56-59 on a 250EX? 62-65 on a 300EX? What kind of drugs are you on son? And a jet kit is for jetting changes, doesnt give you anymore speed or power unless it's jetted PERFECTLY.
Well first dude... Nice Blaster.. good image..
Now to the subject..
A 250ex may not go 59 mph,,, but thats what my trail tech reads and i tested it against my buds sled.
Now keep in mind... i had the throttle wide open.. it held at about 56 for a bit... then slowly got up to 59.
You also have to consider tons of variables like:
Air temperature
Oil Type
Air Filter clean
Surface riding on
Rider weight and height
Tire type and Tire Pressure

There are tons of variables, now i dont want to argue.. i just know what my trail tech is reading, and all my stats are inputed correctly, such as tire size etc.

Anyway gooday
