Ive seen the 400EX climb some big ol hills.Thats a 4-stroke though, so I would have to say the 250R.

400EX. we have a very nice hill climb here, it is slate, and you dig in very easy, so you need to have speed, and light weight and you have to torque your way up the hills. 250R climbs very good too. Its hard to say which is better. the 2-stroke definitly has the advantage though

I've saw a stock 400EX and a 300EX with an FMF pipe go up a hill that I couldn't even walk up.A 300 4x4 wouldn't make it either.

YOU BOYS NEED TO COME WATCH MY MX 426EX GO UP SOME WALLS, NOTICE I DIDNT SAY HILLS....IVE CLIMBED A MANY OF 80 DEGREE OR BETTER WALLS, IN EXCESS OF 65FT HIGH..ON THE HONDA, THE TRICK IS NOT TO CLIMB THEM, BUT TO JUMP THEM....GET A HIGH SPEED, THEN LET OFF, AND ROLL UP TAPPING THE THROTTLE, THEN AT THE TOP, CLUTCH, AND BRAKE TO SET IT DOWN...SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO BAIL AND PUSH THE BIKE OVER, BUT AT LEAST IT MAKES IT..AND YOU NEED A GOOD ROUND RADIUS AT THE BOTTOM OF IT...

Some of it depends on what you're climbing. If it's a sand dune (and the steepest sand will pile is 35 degrees) then the 250R is the best. Dirt trail with some rocks, gimme the 4 stroke grunt and the 400EX. I've ridden some jeep trails on my R and wished I had a 4 stroke. Then I go back to Glamis and I'm really glad I have a 2 stroke. Then I go to the mountains and wish I had a 4x4.
