hey guys, my boyfriend just recently got a 2001 400ex and the chain needs tightened on it. The quad didnt come w/the manual, do you think you could give me some direction on how to do this? thanks a bunch!

 

If he has the allen wrench that is in the tool box use that to loosen the two allan bolts on the back of the swing arm. Then use the same allen wrench, or big screw driver, in the slot on the bearing carrier next to the sprocket to rotate it to tighten the chain. If he doesn't have the allen wrench that came with the quad, just use the size that fits.

 

I had to use 2 pry bars in 2 slots to break it. It was pretty tight. And the 2003 has 4 allens. Not sure about the 2001.

 

My bad, 4 allens, not 2. Was thinking about that sitting here at the computer and couldn't remember. Thanks for the correction raptorlegs.
