Default Rubicon question

I am about to bite the bullet and trade my Prairie 700 for a 2005 Rubicon. One final question: I have traversed water to my racks, without incident. Can the Rubicon handle that?

Absolutely. Occassionally, you may all of a sudden become confined to low range and the gear selections on the screen may start blinking. There have been many solutions on here including a new angle sensor. HOWEVER, when I experienced this problem, I pulled the ECM out from behind the tool box on the rear end and found it was soaked inside. Dielectric spray and a good dry out later, good as new. This has only happened once in my entire ownership of the Rubi and I truly believe it was because that time I was really plowing into the creek as fast as possible. If you at least cruise in before letting her eat, you should have no problems at all. In fact, I might venture to say it would possibly do better than your Prairie in that it has absolutely no belts to get wet. Congrats on your new Rubi. Great machine.

Thanks, RedGoblin. Does the Rubicon have any other quirks of which I should be aware? Also, my dealer does not install Warn winches; only Ramsey. Is that a decent choice? Any other info you can provide to confirm my decision will be appreciated.

I myself have always been a fan of Warn. BUT, these Ramseys seem very nice and with the option of the wireless remote, I wouldn't question purchasing one myself in the future. Assumming you are purchasing a 2005 Rubicon with Traxlok, the biggest thing you are going to have to deal with is the loss of power compared to your Prairie. Believe me, the Rubicon has plenty of power to get the job done, just not nearly as sporty and snappy as a Prairie. Don't expect to win any races, but you'll never find yourself in a situation where you will absolutely NEED more power. Brakes might not be up to par with the Kawi either, although I understand they have put discs on the.........rear I believe. That should certainly help and is an improvement over an older one like mine. Hands down, the best automatic transmission on the market is the biggest advantage of this machine. You'll see that for yourself....

Ya, I've had water up to the racks with no problems at all.
