you do need to pull the gas tank off. pull the valve cover off. this engine is a pushrod engine (i know this is different). you need to put the engine on top dead center. you need to pull a cap off the right side of the engine with an allen wrench to get it on top dead center. this cap is pretty close to your right heal on your foot when your sitting on the bike. i think you may have to pull off that small black plastic piece by your foot too in order to get to this cap (or it will probably be easier anyways to do this). you will need to pull the pull start slowly and look in this hole (the one that you removed the cap from) and look for a T in there. this means top dead center with the T mark is aligned. when you have the valve cover off you can see the rocker arms. the valves are adjusted at .006" on this bike. you loosen the 10mm nut on both rocker arms and turn the piece inside with a flat blade screwdriver left or right depending if you want to tighten or loosen the adjustment. i realize this is just a quick answer. it will probably be best if you just bought a service manual. it will go though step by step.

you can get a clymer from about anywhere. a local dealer, dennis kirk should have them, etc. a clymer should be cheaper than the honda too so i would get the clymer over the honda. i have both and i don't think the honda is any better.
