Rubicon oil change ?
#1
Changed the oil on my Rubicon for the first time. The manual states that you should refill with 5.2 quarts. Mine wouldn't even hold 4 quarts before it was over flowing? Is the manual correct or have I done something wrong? Thanks for any help!

The manual is correct. I have to start my motor briefly after putting in about 4qts to let the oil circulate then i put in the remaining oil. I may have had to start it twice but after it was all done the oil was right where it should have been after 5.5qts.

I tried letting the motor idle for 5 minutes as the manual recommends. Then I re-checked the oil level and there was no room for more oil. If I were to add more oil it would just spill out of the oil tank. Has anyone else experienced this on their Rubicon? Thanks for any help or input!

First off, to much oil creates a lot of extra pressure where you don't want it, so be real carefull. You can end up with blown seals, oil lines, or other damage.
I have no personal experience with the Rubicon, but it sounds like you have to drain BOTH the engine and transmission??? If you just drained the engine, you could have left behind lots of oil in the trans that you aren't accounting for. Just a guess based on Spectra's comments???
Both my 400's are "dry sump" engines, that have an external oil tank. You have to drain BOTH the tank AND the cranckase. You refill the tank first with as much as it will hold, start the engine BRIEFLY to distribute the oil to the cranckase, oil coolers, and oil filter, then shut it off and top it up again to the proper level. Sounds like you have a similar situation.

We bought it in April 2001 so we are starting our 4th summer. We have 5075 miles and 600 hours. So far I have spent $12 for left upper control arm bushings and shaft. It runs every bit as good as it did when it was brand new. Do the maint, use quality oil and Honda filters.
