Default 250r questions

A 250R weighs a lot more than 250 pounds. The factory claimed weights were as follows:

86-87
328.4 lbs (149 kg)

88-89
324 (147)

Not even an aluminum-framed 250R weighs anything close to 250. Think about it. The new 450 motocross bikes weigh around 220-225, and they are the heavyweights. There is no way that a 250R can weigh only twenty-five pounds more. Maybe if it had a Lone Star titanium frame, but even then I doubt it.

What has a higher power to weight ratio, a piped YFZ or 250R w/ a 310 kit?

Its close but unfortunately a piped YFZ has the edge for power over a 310R

You won't regret getting a 250r, there not the fastest bikes any more but in my opinion they still have the best ergonimics of any bike ever produced and are a blast to ride. Gotta love the powerbands. If you pick up one for around $3K, invest another $2-3K in a big bore kit, pipe, suspension, etc you'll have an R that can keep up with a YFZ and still be saving a couple grand.
