Default few problems/questions with a 400ex

I just went quadding this weekend and i have a few questions. My first question is... when i ride its really hard like to ride. Let me explain. All the feedback from the bumps and stuff from the front goes right up to my arms and it just like hurts going fast over bumps. My friend told me i may need a new steering stem and a ball joint. Is it hard to install them? I think i also need new front shocks, cause there shot. Where exactly can i get front shocks? I dont need anything special, im sort of low in cash. Stock shocks would be fine... Does anyone know where i can find them online? Any answers would be great. Thanks guys. Also, he told me to look at lonestar steering stems. He said if they ever break... then u just ship it back and they replace it for free.

First, you need to be sure your shocks (front and rear) are properly adjusted. The stockers in front are only adjustable for preload, the rear is adjustable for preload, as well as compression and rebound damping. The EX has pretty descent stock shocks, so it sounds like your shocks may be adjusted to stiff, or they may be blown. Try adjusting them, then get back to us.

Maybe try some riding technique as well. The EX wheelies easily, so try lofting your front end over obstacles, rather than hitting them head on.

u sure u have the clutch pulled in all the way when its running? cuz that would be the only problem.. the clutch isnt fully engaged to let the tranny go into neutral

yep i had the clutch pulled in all the way. It does not shift into neutral. I have the clutch pulled in all the way when its stalled and it goes right into neutral. There is no ajustment?

the only thing i think it could be is the tension of the clutch cable...try tightening the cable a bit and see if theres still trouble getin it into neutral when running. if anything u might just need a new clutch cable but thats like 10 bucks... itl also be alot easier to pull the clutch in with a new cable.

if you cant get it in neutral, you have been riding the clutch alot i bet, and you burnt the metal friction plates, so they are a bit warped, get a NEW clutch kit, and it will remedy the problem, alot of people do this i have seen of friends bikes, and thats always the problem.

ok, i was working on it today, and i noticed when i pull in the clutch all the way like sqeeze hard, i can get it into neutral. But if i squeeze it normally when its stalled, i can get it into neutral with np... Do u think its a ajustment or those plates? How do i ajust my clutch?
