In the long run your going to be better off financially buying the used one, and will very likely end up with getting a decent amount of mods with it that you wont have to pay for after you own it etc.
With the way finance charges work and these things depreciate plus the typical dollars we put into all the little stuff to personalize them etc there is a real potential for a serious loss of $$$ when you decide to sell.
Now on a used model that you dont over pay for , and that isnt a time bomb just waiting to fall apart you can do a whole lot better, and since the majority of the depreciation has happend already and actually lowered your cost there isnt normally too much on the down side to worry about. Some models actually seem to reach a certain age where they bottom out and you can at least break even or be close to your cost when selling, and sometimes they can even sell for more down the road (the trx250r is a good example).
Just be carefull your getting what you expecting, and check it over real good.
