Ok, I just broke my third airbox today. Sick of this cheap plastic crap. Anyways, I bought a Uni filter that is about half the size of the original and bolted it directly to the carb (took off air box, filter, and tube to carb) Sometimes it runs like when the air box tube came partially disconnected from the carb and I was wondering if it is too lean with the new smaller air filter since it is closer to the carb or if it is a turbulence problem since there is no tube anymore?

Your spark plug should tell you all you need to know. Where did you re-route your crank case vent/overflow?

My first guess would be that you are running richer, since a smaller air filter would be more restrictive... but reading your spark plug is the only surefire way to tell.

got a small k&n filter and put it on the end of the hose and attached it up by the carb to the subframe. Works awesome. Ran it that way for a while and no problems. Did of course fill the hole from the white piece in the tube from the box to the carb. Problem is the box breaking from hard landings. I have no solutions either.

Someone somewhere makes a supporting bracket for the airbox. Saw it not too long ago in my internet travels, just can't find it now. I think that would be a much better solution than running sans an airbox - sounds like a good way to get a bunch of crap into your engine that you don't want, unless you ride sand exclusively.

Why are you landing so hard? I've only broken one airbox and I know exactly why it happened....

This time I was at a new mx backyard track and my friend said top of second to clear the uphill 40 ft double. (Still trying to figure out if it is his Works rear shock that makes him fly about 5% farther or what) Needless to say, I came up 3 ft short and landed all fours on the face of the landing. Broke the air box, peeled the rear light off the frame, and even my key cylinder popped out of the plastic. I have never landed so hard in my life. It hurt! If I wouldn't have had motorcross boots on, I would have for sure broke my right foot, it got bruised up pretty good.

Topic 2: I tried to sign up several times to your thing and I get all the mails, but I can't sign on. Even put in the 4 digit # (same one each time I try to sign on and they send it to me.

Topic 3: Will you hurry up with the quad! As you probably remember, I was going to do the xr400 cam, xr250 box, and a 426 kit. I am leaning towards the 416 now, so I am impatiently waiting. I am on hold for the parts buying because the wife might want a 300ex instead of the 2000 Blaster. Go figure, Man its gonna cost me.

Topic 4: My Mom and Stepdad are in Branson as we speak. I will have to come down sometime and see how little my cojones are. They have grown in the past few years. I have some pics, but do not know how to post or send them. I know attachments, etc...

At a MX track, the dirt is packed like concrete, and the track is layed out poorly.

It happened with my stock suspension. I was jumping a relatively small stepdown tabletop which then goes directly into a double. I overshot the tabletop a bit and landed as Hakmazter did on all fours at the same time as having to brake to slow myself down coming into the double because of my improper landing. The braking compounded the hard landing and my rear suspension bottomed out as hard as it ever has. The rear mounting tab and two side tabs of the airbox snapped allowing the airbox to freely bounce around.....

At least a new airbox is only $12...

If you're getting e-mails, you're set. I looked and you are setup to receive individual message and I don't see any problems with your account.

If you want to post to the group, just send a message to the addressed to TRX400EX@egroups.com. It will be distributed to everyone on the list. Where are you trying to sign on at?

If you are trying to "sign in" at the eGroups server, that is not necessary, unless you want to use the web to browse message, look at links, etc. The link to get a re-authorization number is http://www.egroups.com/remind. They will e-mail you a new authorization number so that you can go in and reset your password.

Topic 3) - assembled and fired the engine last night. Watch the group for updates.

Topic 4) - Very cool... We don't have any really big jumps down here near me, but there are a couple of descent ones (65' or so doubles). If you need help with posting or sending pics, just let me know. Send me an e-mail.
