I got an 04 400ex and i need to tighten the chain. I looked in the manueal and i did what it said by looseing the fixing bolts but i couldnt get the adujuster to turn. Is there a special tool that i have to use. Any help is appreciated.

Once the 4 bolts are loose it will turn. It will stick sometimes, so its hard to turn it. I use big pliers when I have to.

One of the large adjusters for rear shock preload works perfectly!

Really loosen the 4 bolts then use a screw driver to pry the tube open some. You are basically unsticking the tube from the axle carrier. I just use the 6mm allen wrench that came in the factory tool kit.

My experience has been that if you use the allen wrench to move the adjuster like they show you in the owners manual, you just end up hacking up the slots.

I used allens and it worked fine, then needed 2 pry bars to rotate it. Sucker was tight.
