Default 250R Carb ?

I took the carb of my '86 R after it started to bog. The floats started to stick and gas would just flow out of the tubes. I took it off and sprayed carb cleaner in it. Now she wont fire. Carbs are not my area of expertise. Any ideas as to what is wrong would be appreciated. Thanks!

If it wont even fire you have an eletrical problem. Check for loose connetions, tap on the cdi box some, tighten the plug cap... im sure you know

Sorry, I ment it wont start. It does have spark. The first kick it almost starts as it fires and the kick start comes back. But after that its just like the gas is turned off.

Sounds like you may have trash in the needle/seat area or the pilot circuit.Clean the carb thourghly with cleaner then blow it out with a little compressed air.You can check the needle on the float by turning the gas on and pulling the plug out of the bowl.Gas should run out,if so clean the pilot jet out.

You may have a reed problem... have you looked at them?

Just replaced the entire reed valve. That is what I thought the problem was at first. I bought the new reed valve before I even took the old one off which was stupid but, I thought for sure that was the problem.

I think I used too much carb cleaner and I think I didn't get it all out. When I woke up this morning my whole house wreaked. I went in the garage and saw I left the gas on the R. But it didn't even smell like gas. It was that damn carb cleaner smell.

Pull the choke on and kick it several times then check the plug.If its wet,you have a spark problem.I know you said you had spark, but it may not be strong enough to fire off the motor. If the plug is dry go back to the pilot jet.

Ya know, come to think of it, I had the same problem on a blaster one time. Tryed EVERYTHING you could imagine to try to get it started. Had spark, had gas, and wouldnt even fire. It also was bogging before it wouldnt start. It ended up being the flywheel. The pick-up was gone on it. Changed it and started right up first kick.

Another idea- Have you checked the compression?

Yeah...pulled the plug out and kicked it, compression is fine. This top end only has about 2 1/2 hrs on it so I would expect nothing less. I pulled the plug out, reconnected the cap and grounded it to check the spark then kicked it...didn't look to strong. A friend told me to check the coil.
