first off-great site-can't believe all the info i've gotten.
I just bought a new '04 400ex for 3900 at a dealer (hope that's a good deal) and compared to my trailboss, it's insane-I love it. I've put a few basic things on ( pro taper bars, handguards, ac bumper, grips and nerfs), but i want to dive into the intake. I like running gncc type trails with a little mud and water, but i'm afraid of the water/dirt leakage with a k+n. What's the typical intake setup for dirty woods riding (twin air, powerlid, outerwears, ect.) and does it need to be jetted right off the bat without a pipe mod..yet. thanks a lot.
also, if i removed the e-brake and installed the block off cover, can i remove the cable all the way back to the clutch perch? thanks.

Things I'd do if I had a brand new 400ex:
1) grease the swingarm bolt.
2) grease the lower front shock mounts. Remove the bolt grease and retorque.
3) grease the steering stem bushing. You have to remove the front plastic.
yes, you can remove the cable all the way back to the clutch perch. I would get an ez-pull lever and to get rid of all the emergency brake crap. You can get rid of the safety start switch too so it will start whether you have the clutch pulled in or not.

what i have is just a k&n without the lid and my t4, it seems fine and i ride in some pretty watery stuff and haven't had any problems. as for jetting when i had just the k&n i bought a jet kit bc i knew that i would need it anyways. with that came the new needle and jets. so, i did rejet mine with just the filter didn't make it any faster but you could hear the intake sounded kind of like it was piped. and yes you can remove the cable.
