Default GPS Question

Garmin etrex, its cheap, about 75 bucks, does everything i need, and its very simple to operate, even my daughters know how it works, and theres not alot of fancy , unneeded things or buttons to add to the confusion. Its also tough, its been on the 4 wheeler for two years now, and still works like the first day. Best thing...if it dies or gets stolen, im only out 75 bucks.

hondabuster where did you pick your gps up at? For 75 bucks, I almost feel like I need one! Did you have to fab some type of bracket to mount it or did it come with one?

Default GPS Question

I recommend the Garmin Rino. It will plot & track your every move. You can download topo maps and it will overlay any trails that you ride that are not on the downloaded maps as you ride. The Rino is also a two-way radio. If your buddy has one, you can talk to each other and see each other on your screens. It will track you buddy on your screen when you are up to 2 miles away from each other. The Rino is also water proof in 3 feet of water for 30 mins.

I bought a handlebar bracket for mine that really works well. I can put in a earpiece and I can talk to my friends without having to use my hands(the Rino has a voice activation mode).

When we are done riding, I will go home and hook the GPS to the computer and download my rides to my CPU. I have a log of rides that show me distance, moving time, stopped time, max speed, ave speed, altitude, and many more. It is really cool to look back on all of my rides and see all of that info.

Hope this helps and good luck!

There is a Rino 110, 120 and 130. The 130 is the top of the line and as you go down in models, the advanced features go down as well. They will all do what I described in the above post but my 130 will hold more info and do a lot of things that the 110 and 120 won't do. Things that are not as important to ATV riding.

Retail prices are as follows:

Rino 110 - $190.00
Rino 120 - $250.00
Rino 130 - $370.00

I bought my 130 new in the box on EBay for $220.00. You can get a 110 or a 120 on EBay for around $100.00 brand new sealed in the factory box. It is a little more expensive than others but it is loaded with features. Just my .02

Garmin makes great GPS's. Check out there site for all of there models.Garmin GPS

My wife got mine with marlboro miles...only good thing i ever got from cigs. My brother got one from target, on sale for fathers day, for 75 bucks. Ive seen them on ebay for less. I got a handlebar bracket for it, it comes with a new back cover, which has a latch, which hooks securly to the peice that goes on a round bar...like handlebar or front rack. Lots of places sell the handlebar bracket, ive seen them on ebay too.
I would suggest, for a first (and probably last) gps, to go as cheap as posible...that way if you figure out that you need more, you can easily resell the cheap one, with out much loss, and get what you need. If you start with an expensive one, and decide its not for you, youll lose lots more on a resale. There can be so many features on the expensive ones, and youre never gonna know if you need all the fancy stuff. The etrex can be hooked to a computer too, and download from it, but i havent.
my 2 cents
