My R isn't running good please help
#1
My quad runs good until like 4th gear and then when I rev it out it sputters and won't run good do you know what could be wrong?
I took the carb out and cleaned it could I need a new plug or could it be the gas, I run 20:1

I would stick with the br8..not the 9...
the higher the number, the colder the plug--
just wondering why you are running a 9? just
curious...please tell...
also, you ~might~ be jetted a little rich.. have
you done a plug check after running it @ high rpm's?? run it high rpm's, really in any upper gear (3+) for a while, then quickly shut it off while holding the throttle wide open..then pull the plug and see what color it is..it should like kinda like coffee that has creamer in it--or kinda the color of a paper bag.. i would start with the proper plug, first, though...that 9 plug is too cold to fire properly in most cases!!

I run the B8ES in mine. Plugs aren't the problem for me, it's how the thing is jetted, how the fuel mix is, etc. I think 20:1 is extremely rich. I don't know what oil you're using in your fuel mix. I know it says 20:1 on your tank, but ignore that. I run Golden Spectro at 50:1 for dirt/trail riding with 92 octane pump gas. I run 40:1 with same gas for dunes with a bigger main jet. You will get all kinds of opinions on this, but a leaner mix with a good quality oil won't hurt your engine. Most of the racers and people that have built up their engines run around 32:1. At your mix, you ought to smoke like a coal burning train. If you are, well then lighten it up.
What condition is your air filter? If your air filter is dirty it will richen up your mix also. Make sure it's clean.

tHE 20:1 rating is for crude two stroke oil not sinthetic. The new oil these days have the capabiity to run much thinner. I use motul two stoke oil and dont have that problem. I would check your needle clip position. In the 3rd or middle position is factory setting. I would also check the main jet size, and DEFINITLY check to see if your air filter is clean! That is the most important maintence you can do for your bike!

I bought an R about a month ago, and the seller ran 50:1. I plan on running 32:1 with Yamalube, and rejetting if necessary. Richening the gas/oil mixture may require dropping the clip one or two notches, increasing the main and/or idle adjustment. Does this sound right? I will do a plug run and go from there, but I want to at least start on the right foot. Thanks.
