I just purchased a used 2004 450R a month ago and I've found the opposite against my buddies modded YFZ. Mine has more power down low and his has more up high. I also have a 13:1 compression piston in mine though, which is probably the difference.

i drove my cousin's neighbor's stock 04' YFZ today, and im going to be honest. that thing has some serious low end snap. "wow" i mean. my 450R has lots of power, but the 450R has all its power at a higher RPM, so it doesnt have that low end snap...

Well I love my 450r. I feel it has great low end, I just might have to switch to a 13 tooth front sprocket. If that thing had any more of an "instant" snap I think I wouldn’t like it. If I sit back it will wheelie with the punch of the gas if I sit forward enough it wont, ide say perfect. Now I gotta find a yfz to ride and compare. Only if.

Try going in 1st as slow as you possibly can without having it stall...now punch the gas. the 450R hates doing that, doesnt like to be lugged down. and its not as quick of low end as a YFZ. if u try that with a YFZ u will be sorry u did when your laying on your back.. hehe. but like i said, i still like the 450R more because of the mid-high rps powerband.
