Since it is such an old model it is an overhead cam design so that means the clutch will be on the side of the motor so the adjuster should be somewhere on one side of the engine it will kind of be recesed into the side of the engine and it will look like a bolt with a flat head screw in the middle of it. It should say increase and decrease play around the bolt, but if not you should be able to loosen the lock nut and turn the screw clock-wise to decrease the tension on the clutches witch should help the shifting, but not too much because it will cause the clutch to slip. Make sure you don't let the screw move while you are tightening the nut or you will have to start over.
