Engine Trouble in 250R
I recently just got my 250R and i've encountered a problem. It pulls hard through about the first half of the powerband, and then it just falls on its face. I noticed it has a dirty air filter(I just bought it and was just kind of riding around the house), which i'm going to clean tonight. It was also set up to rin at Glamis which is a lower altitude then where i live. COuld it be runnning rich, or could sitting for a couple of years caused something to gum up? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Clean the filter, then get it out and do a "plug chop".Open it up in 6th gear and hit the kill switch.Kill it while it still under throttle(pull in the clutch as soon as you kill it).Take out the plug.Your looking for a brownish tan, like a paper sack.Darker brown to black= rich, lighter is lean. Also check the compression on it and make sure your gas is of high enough octane.Im guessing this is your 1st R,so get yourself a manual from Clymer(on ebay all the time),it shows how to check the electrical components, something else that could be causing your problem.

Yea it is my first R. I actually got the manual with it, and kind of looked at what it said, but i have a feeling the silencer is not plugged. But the compression is good, believe me, my shin can tell you. Maybe its the gas, because it was the gas that was sitting in there a while. And i'm definitely cleaning the air filter tonight. Thanks for the advice dave.

Engine Trouble in 250R
ok sorry to have to revive this dead post, but i have a new update on the problem. I just got the rear shocked reinstalled, and put a brand new br8es spark plug in it. Well it takes off faster than a cheap hooker. But right about when i feel the power band starting to really make power (about half throttle) it just starts sputtering. When i get it in 6th gear and have the throttle pegged for awhile maybe 5-10 seconds. It feels almost like its going to die. After riding it hard in sixth, i pull the clutch and kill the engine to check the plug, but the plug has the good tannish color. The bike sat for awhile so i'm think the main jet maybe got plugged up, and thats why i have no power in the upper rpms. Has anyone else had this problem. I really don't want to have to get a new CDI. But i don't tihnk the jet is too small either. Its the stock carb, and i'm running a fmf pipe, and silencer, boyesen rad valve, kn filter, and cr250 head gasket. The engine has also been ported and polished. Thanks guys.
