Default No headlights or taillights

I have a 98 trx300ex, well I went riding in a shallow creek one day. Well I didn't ride it for a couple of days and when I went to turn the lights on there were no headlights or taillights. Well I thought it was the fuse so I checked that. Its good. I unhooked the headlight and I tested the ground which was good on both ends. I next check for power, there was nothing. I hooked up a jumper wire to the taillight ground to the head light and another jumper wire from the battery to the light. The headlight came on. So I know my ground is good and Im not getting power. I read somewhere that the voltage regulator might be bad. If somebody could help it would be awesome.

I would think the switch would be the more likely faulty component. Youll need a wiring diagram, to find the correct wires, and check them out, and then by pass the switch to confirm its bad. I dont have a diagram, but disconnecting the wires to the switch, and putting a jumper over the correct pair of wires, will confirm whether or not the switch is faulty. You could also disconnect the switch and omh check the operation of it. But thats where id start, and it may or may not be related to the water.
But i wouldnt suspect the voltage regulator.

Just to let everybody know what went wrong. I took the switch apart and found a little piece of metal on the side of the switch, wasn't contacting. If people dont know what it is, its for transfering power throught the wires, just like a switch but smaller. Anyways there is a spring in behind the plate that was binding up I just wiggle the piece of metal and it works just like new.

Also I noticed on the left side of my quad, just below the gas tank, in the wiring harness another connect that is wired into the taillights. It has the same color wires and looks just like the connectors on the taillight. Is this suppose to be on my quad or did somebody add this. I was thinking about adding some extra lights on my quad and now I guess I have a great place to hook my lights in.

Hey, you did good.
Im not sure what the connector is for, usually if its a wire that has a solid color and a stripe...its a factory wire. Usually the home mechanic uses solid colored wire. I think i have a wiring diagram somewhere, whats the wire color, and stripe color?

found the wiring diagram, and it was wired that way. Theres a dark green, and a brown wire going to the taillight, and they added a couple of pigtails, for some reason. Perfect place to add an accerory.
Maybe someone else will know the purpose of that.
