Does anybody know the true definition of horsepower? I know this is a stupid question but we all have used the word at one time or another, but not all of us know the true definition.
Oh and mindcrime is a new cylinder for an aircooled ATC 250R the same price as a TRX R?

It is the force required to raise 33,000 pounds at the rate of one foot/minute, or 746 watts. A measurement of power.

One horsepower is 550 foot-pounds/second (consistent with TxDoc2's statement above).

A one-horsepower motor can lift a weight of 550 pounds at the rate of one foot per second.

Now, "horsepower" is really just an arbitrary engineering unit of work-per-unit-time. A good horse can pull at a rate considerably higher than one horsepower, i.e., more than 550 ft-lb/sec.

Both Txdoc2 and Treefarmer are correct.
1 HP = 745.7 watts - 33,000 foot-lbs per minute - or "the force required to move 550 lbs 1 foot in 1 second"
