Tire Advice??
#1
OK Guys, I need some advice on tires. I'm buying a 05 Rubicon next weekend and plan to add some better tires. I want something that will hold up well on trails without being real rough. The big deep agri type treads are just too rough and aggressive for my taste so I'm leaning toward something like the Holeshot ATR here: http://www.itptires.com/beforeandaft...ubicon500.html or maybe the.... AT489'S here http://www.itptires.com/carlisletires.html. Any suggestions ???
Thanks...

I am running 25" ATR's on ITP 12X7" rims on both my Ranchers. The tires and rims are way light, so I am getting a performance increase there. Greatly improved the bikes handling!
We don't have any mud to speak of here in the desert southwest, so I can't say how they would do in Georgia clay. The rears are a little skiddish on hardpack (***** are large and widely spaced), but excellent everywhere else.

I liked the 489s on my Cat
I like the 26" DU Wetlands Radials I have now. Better in mud than stock, better in everything than stock - ride, handling, mud, snow, and so far flats.
A friend put the 26 inch 589s on, they are much better in certain types of mud but they ride like rocks. He wants a set of the Wetlands for everything but mud.

Thanks Fellows. I like those DU radials Prop. Look like another possible option based on your photos.
Glad to hear the ATR's are light Recon. The weight is a factor in my choice for sure. I want a radial tire but I dont want to deal with too much extra weight. Still shopping around on prices. Thanks again for the info.

I'm leaning toward the ITP C Series Type 5 rims. They seem to be strong and fairly light.

One thing I like about my tire/rim combination, is that it widened the bike quite a bit for a nice increase in stability, yet it isn't so wide that it can't be ridden on tight trails.

We had Goodyear Mudrunners, they are a HARD riding tire. We purchased a set of 25" Maxxis Bighorn Radials. These are great tires. They ride great! They improved the ride greatly. The do great on the trail and are excellent snow tires.
As soon as Maxxis makes Bighorns that fit our Ranchers wheels, we will get a set for it too.
You can check my pictures and see what they look like on our older Rubicon.
