I am toying with buying new tires for woods and trails, with lots of hillclimbs for my 250R. There is a ton of rocks where I ride. I am torn between the Razors and the Holeshots. They are basically the same but I want the longest wearing tires. I have heard that both wear quickly, but which has the longest tread wear. Please those with experience give me the real lowdown on how long these tires last compared to each other. Thanks Dave

Holeshots are made of a much harder compound.

Well now I am stuck right where I was originally. Some say Razors, some say Holeshots. I am not concearned with what tire is better. I think the performance will be very similar. I want to know which wears longer. Also what about Bandits. I have heard they are long wearing, but not as good as the other two, any thoughts? So anyway if anyone else has anymore ideas on which has the longest tread life please help me out. Thanks Dave

FourTraxXC,

The HoleShots are made up of a slightly SOFTER compound than the Razrs and as a result will wear a bit more quickly. The downside is that the Razrs don't hook up quite as well.

According to Dirt Wheels Magazine, they did a comparison a month or two ago. They liked both the Hole Shots and Razors, but according to them the Razors are the ones with softer compound making them wear faster, they may be wrong, but I'd take their word before I'd take anyone elses.

We have run both on several of our GNCC race bikes and as for wear and wear alone the Razr will wear faster than the Holeshot. If you can wait a little while, Razr is coming out with a new tire soon. The tire is a race/sport type tire and Bill has a couple of sets at his house doing some testing. They look like they are slightly taller with a slightly different tread design and tougher sidewall as this has been one of the Razr's weak points.
