Need input as it has been 10 years since I have ridden. I had a 1986 honda 250r that I ran in the woods, mud, and jumped. I loved the bike. Is there a better 4 wheeler that is close to the style of the 250r I should be looking at ( cannondale, banshee, other? )? Need some help.

Not sure if you are refering to handling, engine, the whole package, or what???
As far as engines go, the new 450's: TRX, YFZ, and maybe a Suzuki that might be out soon, have a 2-stroke feel, even though they are 4-strokes.
As far as handling, any quick, agile, and light machine like: 400EX, Z400 (a 400EX knockoff), TRX450.
Of all the machines out there the 400EX is probably closest in the frame geometry, but it has a very different engine. As a total package, maybe the 450R comes closest (but needs gearing changes if it is going to be used as a trail machine).

For tight woods, you want bottom end grunt, not a lot of rev. The best woods bike of all time is probably the 300EX. It is medium size and agile, but somewhat underpowered. My second choice is the 400EX. Excellent handling, and all the bottom end you will ever need.
