Oil change for recon
#1
I just bought a 2005 honda recon. Can someone explain where the oil filter is and how it works. Is the first oil change just " an oil change" When do you change the filter. Thanks.

The Recon has no "oil filter" per say, it has a strainer screen inside the moter that catches everything, so if you ever have to have moter work done make sure to tell them to clean it for you, or if you do your own wrenching you can clean it your self, something that will help you in many way is to get you a shop manual, even if you don't ever work on your quad it will give you all the fluid amounts and many other specks that help out all the time.

The screen is only the "prefilter", and only half of the system. The real filter is "centrifugal", and it is actually a system that works pretty well. The owners manual says that you should clean the screen and centrifuge every 200 hours. Should be done by experienced mechanic.
Because the system doesn't have a disposable filter, I am a little more fastidious about oil changes on these machines than I am on a machine with a disposable filter.

do they have the same oil filter slingy deal that the old 200ATC had? My buddy has an ATC and all he has is a screen and that "oil filter rotor" that they showed in the book. It was like packed solid with crap one day when we finally realized that was in there.
