Default 2005 honda recon starting problem

I bought a 2005 honda recon about a month ago and have had a little trouble with it starting. It won't start when its cold without giving it throttle and choking doesn't help. Once it warms up it runs fine and starts fine when its hot. The dealer said the mix screw needs adjusted and the valves should be fine. Why would it run fine when its hot and run rough and not idle when its cold. Looking for some suggestions.

The new Honda recon has a funny air mixture screw in it and is not adjusted right
as far as the valves are concerned they should be looked at for the first service just incase they were never set right to start with.

Find out how many feet above sea level you are and adjust your air micture to the correct settings 2 and a 1/2 turns out at 3000 ft above sea level

good Luck

I did see that the screw was a little weird. What type of tool would you use to adjust it? Thanks.

I'd just leave it alone. Its not that big of a deal. If it won't idle, pull the choke 1/4 so it idles until it warms up.

Choking it doesn't seem to affect it.

Not running good when cold and running fine when warm, are classic signs of lean. Either the mixture screw needs to be richened, turn out...or as long as you figured out how to start it (give it 1/4 throttle), thats an acceptable fix too.
Once the motor is up to temperature, and you pull the choke full on....does it make a difference? It should either kill the motor or make it run really crappy. If the choke on or off, doesnt make a difference...and its still under warentee, have them fix it, (the choke might not be working.)

It will die if you choke it when its warm, but it will not start when its cold with full choke, when its cold the choke doesn't help, whether its full choke or half choke. Also, when its hot, half choke or quarter choke does not affect it only full choke.

For the 05 250 recons have a real funny air mixture screw and unfortunatle the only tool right now is from Honda the are $145.00 Canadian we use tham at the dealership but we are working on trying to scratch build on will let you know how it goes. also look at the spark plug they come with a denso plug in them and what we do is change them to a NGK DPR8EA-9for standard operation

try dropping down one clip on the needle jet

Where the throttle cable goes into the carb unscrew that. Pull out the needle and lower the clip(raising the needle).

It may start to run better as it breaks in.
