Reliability is a huge factor, particularly at your age when you don't have as much money to spend on replacing parts. My understanding is there are two major problems with the YFZ, concerning reliability. The battery and stator have fits, and the stator can tend to drain the battery, resulting in hard start situations. The other that I have heard is the connecting rod is weak. However, you can solve the starting problem by ordering a YFZ with a kickstarter, and Yamaha replaced the rod for '06 to solve the problem there.
I haven't heard much as far as problems for the Honda. However, I do not cruise the Honda forums as often and am more a yamaha rider. The Honda is cheaper, which is a plus. But I have ridden both, and in stock trim I felt the YFZ outperformed the Honda. In the end the choice is yours.
