It's not illegal everywhere, here in Minnesota, the DNR set up a class / driving certification course for 12 yr old and up, when done, you are legal to ride adult quads, as long as you are in the company of an adult.

Keep in mind a lot of these guys that are telling you to get a bigger qaud are always going to want something faster and not practical. Just remember it is about having fun.
Just for your info, the 05' and 400ex's have reverse incase you don't already know. I just say that incase you decide you do want something bigger.

If you are still a growing boy, I don't recommend getting this quad since you are already way on the upper limit especially for the suspension. You can put this same type of clutch arrangement on a z400 and you will have it for years and years.
I am looking out for your pocketbook.

I like my 300ex and it likes me back. I personally owned a 250ex in the exact same situation you're in and I sold it in 1 year so I could have a chain driven clutched model. Sure, I get roasted by about 5 lengths by 400ex's, but I'm good with it and I can out wheelie any of those power hungry 400ex guys. If you dont believe me I'll send you a vid of one of my trademark 1/4 mile wheelies. I would have gotten a 400, but I also wanted to limit my cash droppage, and this was a swell solution. By the way get AC nerf bars. They look phatty and juicy on the 300's shortish frame. Thats another reason I like my 300ex. It's smallish and my measley 120 pounds can fight it pretty well. If you snoop around you can get one new at the end of the model year for 3800 ish. Or get one used for cheaper.
