I've read several places that is bad for the engine and the clutch to use the D2 mode. Is this true and why?

im not an expert on the d2 mode of the rubicon, but i find it extremly hard to believe honda woud install the d2 option if it would destroy the engine.

now if people are talking about not using d2 while in deep mud, or yanking a heavy load i would understand that, prolly what d1 is for...

D2 is basically like overdrive for a quad. I always slap it in D1 when in the woods or mudding and stuff.

D2 is aimed for max traction, D1 is override basically, D2's main area is going up rocky hills and things with loose gravel and dirt.

Nope, its the other way around. D2 in like a antislip, for ice and such. The power comes on smoother, but it may work good for what your talking about. D1 is for maximum power to do some serious mudding and pulling.

Ridinhigh,

That is exactly what I said, D2 is a max traction mode, I am quite aware of what all 3 modes do, and how they can be used in conjunction with low gear.

I miss my Rubicon from time to time, I got it brand new in 2003, had 27 inch 589's on it but after about 3k miles it started acting up so I bid it adeau, having 4wd is a missed thing on them sports.

Did you have a lift on it? I was told I could fit 27's on it but was afraid it would bog the engine down too much. I'm going to get my 26" mudlites by the end of the week and hope I like them. They look pretty good on the Ruby. I kinda steered away from the 589's due to the weight of them. If I was going to put them on my Grizz I wouldn't have been concerned. I had to drop the Grizz due to my bad luck with it, it has been a lemon. I went with the Rubicon because it seemed to best fit my needs. The Rincon just didn't seem worth the extra price. And as much as I wanted to buy a Brute Force it was still a Kawasaki. What sucks is that their is something bad about every quad you buy, you just have to narrow your choices down. If they could make a Holarasakiyamasuki, we would all be happy.
