recieved a recall for the clutch plate on my 05 Foreman 4x4 ES, honda says it wasnt up to their standards. Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated. My dealer may be honest but what should I look for?

umm, i dont know exactly, but i think they have a problem with the clutch coming apart somewhere, be it either the clutch basket (thing that holds the discs) or the actuator or something. it would probably wreck the engine if it came apart, so dont ignore the recall. If you think you have an affected machine, look at honda's website, they usually have a thing for you to type in your VIN number and it will tell you if it's under that recall or not. either that or call a dealer, and give them the VIN over the phone. If they give you crap about it, just find another dealer.

I work for a Honda dealer, in the service department.

We have a list of every one we sold and I am personally calling every owner.

We are in St. Joe MO and are more than happy to do this repair, under warranty, for anyone wanting it.

Honda is very good about fixing things like this, proactively and easily.

Should take the dealer about 3 hours to do the job.

Drop off one day, pick up the next is nice of you.

Please call ahead for an appointment.

If your dealer is not able to promptly handle this, call Honda's customer support people at Honda headquarters.

The number is on their web site.

They do react quickly.

Good luck!

So you are saying every 05 500 foreman sold are being recalled for this clutch problem?

It is not as recall, it is a product update campaign. A few of the clutchs MAY not have been to Honda's specification from the mfg.

Out of the hundreds of tie rod ends we did, we only know of one bad one.

Honda should be applauded (IMO) for their proactive response to potential issues, IMO.

Here are the serial numbers effected:

2005 TRX500FE 1HFTE317*54000001 thru 012366
2006 TRX500FE 1HFTE317*64100001 thru 102879
2005 TRX500FM1HFTE310*54000001 thru 011415
2006 TRX500FM1HFTE310*64100001 thru 102051

No worries, it is a Honda.

Dealer had me in and out in two days, no visible problems, precautionary recall they said. Some machines have tie rod boot problems, mine does not. Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, I had mine in for the clutch upgrade thing, and the dealer did a good job. I can't tell any difference in the machine.

Nice of Honda to fix something I didn't even know was wrong, after the warranty had expired.

I had it in previously to have the tie rods checked (before parts were available) and they said they looked fine. I later got another letter about the tie rods, saying dealers now have a supply of parts.

I asked them about that when I had the thing in for the clutch, and they said that they checked them and they were fine... The letter from Honda made it sound like all of them were to be replaced, but apparently only the ones that don't pass inspection get replaced?

Can anyone confirm that?
