CT Racing 440 Kit
#1
Is anyone running the CT Racing 440 kit in a 400ex. I was looking into it, head porting, 11:1 piston, cam, valves, some other goodies they have a kit on their website that's 1,200.00. My engine is pretty much stock, but am wondering wheather to put 2,000.00 into my quad and make it the way I have dreamed of it or buy a new YFZ or 450R. I love the way my ex drives but it does need more power. The Kit i am looking at claims to have 39 hp at the rear wheels. Anyone else know of a really good 400 big bore kit that I can run a 11:1 piston, I do some woods riding, hope to get on a few tracks, go on trips just about everywhere. thanks guys

Wow, that is kind of a hard choice. 39HP is about what a stock YFZ or 450R puts down, and you would be getting better suspension and a brand new ride. Personally I would sell the 400 and put that 2K you were going to spend on mods into a new one.

My two buddies have 450R's and I don't know if i could jump ship to a YFZ, yes they are fast and I have ridden one and loved it. But don't know if I could handle the greif from all of my honda biased buddies

A guy in our shop just built up a "480" TRX400, stroker crank, big resleeve. I am doing the head myself, the ports looked very good. I only plan on cleaning up the welds, matching the ports and smoothing the bowls.
Our TRX450R HRC kit installation is put off until tomorrow.
Holy cow, the kid brought it in. Like 4" wider, all these fancy remote shocks and this and that. I hear he is really good, we are blessed to be allowed to install the kit for him.
We will dot our i's and cross our tee's for him, as we do for most every customer.

that's just it, after I put that much into my engine i plan on doing a full suspension upgrade, long travel front shocks, a-arms, swing arm, rear shock. When I would be done it would be a dream, just not sure if a stock new quad could float my boat the same way that would. my brother has a 400ex same year, but I have more of the MX look and he has more of the cross country look to his. (My wheeler looks way different from the pics shown in my profile) he is planning on doing a 500cc kit to his, and I was thinking about the 440. How is the reliability of 440 kits, I want to build my engine once and right the first time.

You could always get the 450R. Or just say to heck with it and pick up the new Suzuki. A little friendly ribbing is always going to happen between friends anyhow, until you lay down the law with your new Honda Smoker 2000 that is

I think the new Suzuki is ugly. Just my opinion. does anyone happen to know what trade in might possibly be on a 2003 Honda 400ex? Just curious to here what other guys have gotten for theirs. The local honda dealer has a 04 or 05 i cant remember 450r in stock that he wants to get rid of. other than the new 06 with electric start would be nice
