Just got a 2005 Rubicon
#1
Just purchased a 2005 Rubicon in Green with a 2.5ci Warn winch(mounted) and a 50" Moose plow(mount myself) for $7400 out the door. It was between the Honda and a Suzuki Vinson....Honda won because of the tranny(belt vs gear), the body(Suzuki, cheap hard thin plastic...camo though) and the reliability. Now I need a trailer and some snow tires. Any suggestions on the snow tires or will the stocks do me fine for now.

Hi the stock tires will work ok but in deeper snow they will spin a lot and some times with that big of plow it will spin you side ways I put on itp 589s for the winter and gaters during the summer. The 589s get great traction in the snow I have a long drive way some times it takes a couple of hours to push snow. And be carefull with the moose plow the square tube frame will buckle if you ram the snow hard two of my friends have had it hapen to them. good luck with your new rubicon

Well just got back from the dealerl....the winch was only a 1.7 warn.....hope that is big enough....guy at work said you can not pull more than the weight of you and the quad...total would be 840(I weigh 240). Is this true....? It kinda makes sense. Thanks for the info on the tires.....I'll look them up. Are the ITP rims worth it.....did you go alumin...or steel. Do they rob you of power. I know....the thing is a tank.....

I have the alumin. rims and I dont see much in power change just a little slower getting up to top speed and I have 27" itp 589s I am happy with them I can through a lot of mud with them as well. I have a 3000 warn winch on my 2005 rubicon and a 2000 warn winch on my wifes recon I had the 2000 just sitting in a box so I put on my wifes recon so the thing isnt so light in the front end. I now the 3000 winch works pritty hard to pull my atv out of the mud so you might whant to get the 2500 warn they come with a remote so you dont have to be on the atv when using.good luck on the winch and tires i will check back to see what you decided.

Thanks for the info....Just talked to my 2 general maintenance foremen....I work in a Coke Plant(Steel Production) and they said the 1500 would be fine with the mechanical brake. They said that the rule of thumb for winches is 1.5 x max weight you want to pull. So the 1500 should be fine. Mechanical is better than dynamic. I asked out Electrical foreman about amp draw and pull....he said the one with the higher amp draw is not more powerful if they are rated the same. A higher amp draw will just move the line faster. Warn has this type or winch. Ramsey has a lower amp draw and they accomplish this through a smaller motor but different gearing....the line will move slower in the lower amp draw one...(Ramsey). So the guys said go with the winch that has the cheapest price and the best warranty....RAMSEY. But my dealer can not or will not get a Ramsey for me so I'm going with the Warn 1500 with the mechanical brake(dynamics can fail....not to say they will). But I think I'll be fine with it since i'm just using it for the plow. Watch someday someone will take me out on a ride to backwoods place and I'll get the quad stuck and not have enough to get me out.....That is the way my life works sometimes.....
Thanks for the info on the wheels and tires......I'll check them out. Hell if I'd buy all the accessories I want I'd spend another 2000 bucks.....Next step is a small trailer.
THANKS AGAIN......I'll let you know how it goes.

Congrats on the Rubi. I am sure that you will love it as much as I love mine.
If you are going to change rims, I would suggest going with aluminum over steel b/c of the weight difference.
As far as the winch goes, if it does struggle at times just pull your cable out ALL the way before you start pulling your quad out of a hole. You loose about a fourth of your pulling power every time the cable rolls over itself. If you pull the cable ALL the way out you should have no trouble with a 1.7 warn.
Good luck and always go DEEP!
